ANNOUNCEMENTS – 7/28:

Family Night:  Friday, July 30th at Lake Fort Smith.  Meet in the parking lot of Beland Manor Inn, for those who want to carpool at 5:15 p.m., we’ll leave by 5:30.  We have the pool area to ourselves from 6:15 to 8:15.  Cost is $4.00 per person.  There is a great kiddy pool with buckets that dump water and the main pool has two slides!  We will eat in the picnic area separate from the pool.  It is potluck.  There are grills in the picnic area if anyone wants to grill.  I say do all cold food!


Outback Steakhouse joins with United Way for Meals for Kids:  The Outback Steakhouse on Rogers Ave. in Ft. Smith will hold a benefit luncheon for the “Meals for Kids” program in Arkansas and Oklahoma public schools on Friday, July 30, from 11am to 1pm.  Your $20 donation to the program at the Clearinghouse buys lunch with a steak or chicken entrée, a salad, two vegetables, free non-alcoholic drinks and cheesecake.  No carry out meals, please.

 

Tickets are required, and they’re limited.  We ask that you visit the Clearinghouse at 4420 Wheeler in Ft. Smith to purchase your tickets, or call us at 782-5074 for ticket information.  All tickets must be purchased in advance.  Sorry, no reservations.


Laymen’s League:  The laymen will hold their regular July luncheon meeting on Friday, July 30th, at noon in the Skinner Building. The menu is smoked pork chops, cole slaw, baked beans, and ice cream sandwiches. 

 

Come and enjoy good fellowship, eat a good meal, suggest a program for August, and maybe even volunteer to prepare the meal for a future meeting.


1st Sunday breakfast:  this Sunday, August 1 at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall. 


 

Habitat for Humanity:  A group from Habitat for Humanity will be arriving at St. John’s on Sunday, August 1 and staying until Saturday, August 7.  This group of 11 people are from Richmond, KS and will be staying in the Skinner Building.  


Christmas in July  for the children of Howard Elementary School.  From July 4 until August 15, a Christmas tree is in the Parish Hall.  Pick up a list of  supplies for a grade.  Return the bag of supplies with list attached by August 15.  If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact Jeannie McCabe.


August Saints Alive will be at the home of Mary Jane Mustard on Friday, August 20th, 6:30 p.m.   Entree will be provided; bring a side dish, salad, dessert, or bread and beverage of your choice.  


Adult Education Planning Committee:  Fr. Mike would like to meet with individuals who are interested in forming a planning committee for Adult Education.  Please contact him at the church office, 782-9912.


If you are new to St. John’s and have needed a nametag; please check the board by the door, nametags are in alphabetical order.

Outreach:

Don’t forget to pick up something for the backpack program.  Remember that the backpack program continues through the summer.  The kids that use it through the school year need it just a much during the summer as they do the rest of the year.  Donations of any of the products on the list are always welcome.  See the bulletin board in the Parish Hall for a complete list. 


 

Tuesday service of healing prayers & Eucharist is offered in the Skinner Chapel at 12:15 p.m. each Tuesday.  The service includes intercessory prayer for all on our Intercessory Prayer List, the laying on of hands & anointing with oil for those desiring this sacrament, and a relaxed atmosphere.  All are invited to this mid-week service.


 

Sunday Morning Christian Ed: 

  • Children’s Chapel offered DURING “Liturgy of the Word” portion of the 10:30 service. 
  • Adult Bible Study – 9:15 a.m. led by Steve Kilpatrick.

Deadline for Holy Babble articles:  The newsletter will be mailed out again on Aug. 25.  The deadline for articles is Friday, Aug. 20.  Articles can be called in or emailed to the church office at 782-9912 or vphelan@stjohnfs.org   if your articles are not submitted by the deadline we will be unable to include them.
