The Annual Meeting of St. John’s Episcopal Church was held last Sunday, January 29, 2012.

We would like to welcome these new members to the vestry:  Sam Baker, Calline Ellis, Rex Terry, Brent Ward, and Randy Williamson.

1st Sunday breakfast:  Sunday, Feb. 5, 9:00—9:30 a.m.

The ladies will be cooking this time.  Come and join in the fellowship.

Feb. 22:  Holy Eucharist & Imposition of Ashes, and Enrollment Liturgy for Youth Confirmands

                                                  Services at noon & 7:00pm

 

                         Lenten program will be offered on Wednesdays:

                         5:00  Stations of the Cross

                         5:30  Holy Eucharist

                         6:00  Simple Lenten Supper

                         6:30  Lenten Study

SAHMs (Stay At Home Moms):  Feb 2nd the SAHM play date will be at St. John's.  We'll meet noonish (12:15) in the main building (215 North 6th Street) in the nursery area.  Bring your lunch and the kids can play outside if weather permits, otherwise we'll stay inside.

 

            Feb 8th the SAHM Mom’s lunch will be at noon at Rolondo’s.

 

            Feb 16th the SAHM play date will be at the Central Mall Playland in the Food Court.  We'll meet noonish (12:15). Bring your lunch or buy something from the Food Court.  We will eat and let the kids play.

 

Please know that anyone is invited to join us.  We even have a “SAHMs wanna be” who joins us for the monthly lunch.

Join us for a delicious potluck on Friday, February 17 from 6-8 in the Skinner building. The theme is Mardi Gras.  Gumbo will be the main course.  The Burton’s will be hosting.  Nursery provided and program for 4 yr. olds to 5th graders in Parish Hall. 6th grade and up to meet in youth room for dinner and games. Watch for evite! 

 

 


Laymen’s League:  The Laymen are scheduled to meet on February 23rd in the Parish Hall at noon.  Come a little early and enjoy fellowship with other men from the Parish and maybe a visitor or two.

 

Shrove Tuesday Shrimp Boil at Trinity, Van Buren:  The Shrimp Boil will be Tuesday, February 21st from 5:30-8pm.  The cost is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 4-11. 

The laymen will sponsor our annual St. Patrick’s Celebration.   The laymen will be preparing the St. Patrick's Celebration food on Sunday, March 18, 2012.  More information to come. 

We will be collecting Palms/Palm Crosses for Ash Wednesday.  There will be a basket at the back of the church to put your palms in. The last day to bring them in is Sunday, February 18.

 

Girl’s Night Out:  Here we go with the start of a new year getting ready to enjoy good food and fellowship once more.  This group will meet on Tuesday, February 28th, at T.G.I. Fridays at 6:30 pm.   All women of St. John's are invited to attend.  Transportation will be arranged for those who would like to carpool.  In order to set this up, you will need to get your reservation made to Bettye Fields (479-452-2637) by Sunday, Feb. 26th.

Diocesan convention will take place on Feb. 17–18 in Little Rock, with the business session on Saturday, Feb. 18. Some work of the convention needs to start now.

First, if delegates to convention or members of the clergy wish to submit a resolution for consideration by the convention, it needs first to be sent to the Resolutions Committee. Please email the Rev. Danny Schieffler, rector of St. Mark's in Little Rock and chair of the Resolutions Committee, any resolution that you want considered. He and his committee will prepare the resolution and then present it to convention with their recommendation.

Second, there will be a number of elections at convention.

Remember to sign up to host Saints’ Alive for 2012:  The host provides the place, dishes, silverware, and ice.  Some like to provide an entrée, but most choose to have strictly pot-luck, with everyone bringing a dish and beverage of choice.  The host chooses what weekend and what day to have it that month and the time.  Please call Karen Rouse at 479-648-0068 if you have any questions.  A signup sheet is on the purple board in the hallway by the garden door.  Open months are February – April.

Winterstar Retreat for Youth

Feb. 24–26 for Senior High, March 2–4 for Junior High

Winterstar, the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas' annual winter retreat for youth, will take place on two different weekends: Senior high Winterstar will be Feb. 24–26; junior high Winterstar, March 2–4. Both weekends will take place at Camp Mitchell and will begin on Friday evening, with registration at 8 p.m., and end Sunday morning, with a closing service at 10:30 a.m. For more information or for online registration, visit the Winterstar website.

Tuesday service of healing prayers & Eucharist is offered in the chapel in the Skinner Building at 12:15 p.m. each Tuesday.  The service includes intercessory prayer for all on our Intercessory Prayer List, the laying on of hands & anointing with oil for those desiring this sacrament, and a relaxed atmosphere.  All are invited to this mid-week service.

 

Sunday Morning Christian Ed.:

  • Children’s Chapel – (offered DURING “Liturgy of the Word” portion of the 10:30 service).
  • Adult Bible Study – 9:15 a.m. led by Steve Kilpatrick.
  • New Adult Education Class – 9:15 in Chambers Hall led by Fr. Mike Lager & Steve Kilpatrick.
  • Children/Youth: “First Fruits” on 1st Sunday of month 9:45 a.m.

 

If you are new to St. John’s and have needed a nametag:  fill out a request for a tag or check the board by the door if you’ve already requested one, nametags are in alphabetical order.
