Altar Guild:  Members are responsible for maintaining the altar linens and vessels, setting up for services, clean-up following services and are responsible for seeing that altar flowers go to shut-ins.

Atrium Guild:  (Catechesis of Good Shepherd) Members are responsible for creating materials for the Atrium:  Woodworking, painting figurines, handwriting, cutting, pasting, copying and organizing materials, swering, and making specific materials for the children's work.

Backpack Program - Parishioners donate non-perishable food items which are given to the Community Services Clearinghouse.  These snacks are put in backpacks and sent home on Fridays with school aged children to be sure that they have something to eat through the weekend time.  Donations may be put in the wagon located in the Information Center.

Bible Study:   These studies give an opportunity for participants to study the Bible from cover to cover -- Old and New Testaments and the Apocrypha as well.

Camp Mitchell: Conference facilities and campgrounds for the Diocese of Arkansas. It is used for church retreats, women's meetings, summer youth camp as well as many other functions.

Cards for Others - Cards For Others is a ministry of St. John's that provides cards for persons in nursing homes in Western Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma.  These cards are donated to the ministry and distributed by Project Compassion to each and every nursing home in this area.  This ministry also provides stamps to the persons receiving these donated cards.Donations may be left in the basket in the Information Center at St. John's.

This ministry distributes cards of all and every occasion, such as Birthday, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Graduation, Confirmation, Baptism, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Anniversary, Thank You, Thinking Of You, and even Blank cards.

Stamps to mail these cards are a very important part of this ministry.

Church Periodical Club - Is a ministry of the printed word. CPC distributes Bibles, Prayer Books and other religious materials to missions and institutions that could not otherwise afford them.  CPC Sunday is the first Sunday in May.

Miles of Pennies:  Is part of the CPC program and is a fund that provides grants to give school-aged children books, magazines, tapes, videos, and computer programs.

Columbarium and Memorial Garden: A place of repose for the ashes of those who have died. It is located on the east wall of the garden.

Comfort Committee: This group provides meals and/or receptions for parishioners and their families at the time of a death. The meal is delivered to the home or a reception may be held at the church either before or after the service.

Education for Ministry: EFM is the theological extension program of the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. Completion of the program takes four years during which participants study the Bible, church history and twentieth century theology.

Episcopal Relief and Development - The ERD is the Episcopal Church's primary ministry of outreach and emergency care throughout the world. The ERD responds in time of warfare and natural disaster.

Eucharistic Ministers: Lay people who are licensed and trained to assist at the worship services by administering the chalice at the Eucharistic Services.

Eucharistic Visiters:  Lay people take Communion, the readings and prayers to those who are not able to come to church.  If you know of someone who would like to receive Communion, please contact the church office.  The Eucharistic Visitors are licensed by the Diocese of Arkansas.  This is a wonderful ministry.  If you would be interested in being a Eucharistic Visitor, please contact the church office.  Training will be provided.

EYC: (Episcopal Youth Community) Junior and Senior High Youth have a program of activities and service through our E.Y.C. adult leaders and youth officers direct the year's events. To join, simply come to any E.Y.C. meeting (open to non-St. John's parishioners, too) or contact any of the E.Y.C. members or advisors. We use adult volunteers willing to provide food. The Junior High Youth & Senior High attend diocesan events.  Both groups will be meeting in the Ruth Skinner Building.  Refer to Youth-Children page on E HWY.

Girls Night Out :  A group of women, diverse ages who meet the last Tuesday of each month at different restaurants for socialization.

Good News Committee: This committee includes leaders of the Greeters, Marketing, Neighbor to Neighbor, Ushers, and Youth who work to share the good news of God in Christ by spreading the story that St. John's is a welcoming church.

Good Samaritan Clinic: Provides medical treatment for those have no health insurance.  It is located at 615 N. "B" St.  This property was purchased by St. John's and rents to the clinic for one dollar a year.  Many parishioners are volunteers.

Greeters: Greeters welcome those coming to worship at St. John's. They identify visitors and connect them with someone to host them through their visit.

Handicapped Access: There is a ramp located at the parking lot entrance to the education wing of the church. Handicapped persons may reach the church by going through the Parish Hall to the chapel and down the ramp to the nave of the church. There is also a handicapped accessible restroom.

Hearing Impaired: The church is equipped with private, portable earphones which amplify the public address system for those with hearing difficulties. Please ask one of the ushers about using a hearing device.

Laymen's League: The Laymen meet on the last Friday of the month except during November and December. The primary activity of the group is social, but the "Roadkill Group" cooks for church gatherings.

Memorials Committee: Parishioners who oversee how the memorials funds are being designated and spent.

Neighbor to Neighbor:   This group of people serve as pastoral care providers.  The parish is geographically divided into areas with a coordinator over each group.  These coordinators keep in touch with their people every few months either by telephone or by correspondence to see if they are in need of any pastoral care. If a parishioner has a problem, the coordinator reports it to the church or to the ministries coordinator.  New people are taken a loaf of bread along with information about the church.

Rector/Curate's Discretionary Fund - Many crisis, emergencies and opportunities for charity come to the attention of the Rector. The Discretionary Fund  is a means for the church to respond to such needs. Anyone may contribute by making a check payable to St. John's designated for the Discretionary Fund.

Sack Lunch Program - This is a program to feed the hungry in Fort Smith.  Through volunteers St. John's gives away thousands of sack lunches yearly, to anyone who comes to our door. This ministry serves a critical need for those who are poorest and most vulnerable in our community. Breakfast is served Monday through Friday and lunch is served Monday through Saturday from the Secrest Building.

Saints Alive: This group meets strictly for fun and fellowship. Once a month, the congregation is invited to a member's home for a potluck dinner. This is an "adults only" event.

United Thank Offering - UTO is the outreach arm of the women of the Episcopal Church throughout the world. Members of St. John's use a UTO collection box as a place for offerings and prayers given at any time of thanksgiving. That money is then sent to the diocese which in turn sends it to the National Church to be combined with money from dioceses from all over  the country. It is then held until the General Conference and given out as grants worldwide to groups who need help.

Vacation Bible School: Vacation Bible School for children from nursery through sixth grade is scheduled for one week during the summer.  It is held with Trinity Episcopal Church and St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. There are Bible stories, songs, crafts, and refreshments.

Vestry: It is the governing body of the parish and is made up of fifteen communicants in good standing. Each member serves a term of three years. They are elected by the members at the Annual Meeting each January.
