Music Ministry | Parish Choir | Wedding Music | Funeral Music

“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.  Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song”, declares the psalmist in
Psalm 95:1-2

Music is an integral part of worship at St. John’s Episcopal Church.  It is our belief, that Worship is the greatest and grandest privilege of our Christian life.  Today at St. John’s we follow the significant role music has played in the Old and New Testament.  The Music Ministry offers a chance for you to let music be a part of your gift to God.  The goal of St. John’s Music Ministry is to have a bold, joyful, exuberant, and participatory style of worship which is a careful blend of dignity and freedom.  Our worship strives to be majestic, yet warm and personal.

The Parish Choir is a group of singers dedicated to the Ministry that music provides during the Holy Eucharist and special seasons of the church year.  This group of individuals rehearses weekly throughout the year on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM.  A minimum of one anthem is presented weekly during the 10:30 AM Eucharist as well as special presentations during Lent, Holy Week, Advent, and Christmas Eve.  Rehearsals cover music for a period of up to eight weeks in advance, which gives our members flexibility with there personal schedules.

This choir is open to all who have a love for music and the desire to share their talent, and present it as an offering back to God.  We are not an auditioned or professional group of singers.  Our desire is to present our best for the Glory of God, as we strive to grow in our knowledge and ability as singers.

We would invite anyone interested in becoming a part of this important Ministry of the Church, to visit us for a rehearsal and consider becoming one of us.

Please feel free to contact Tim Hess with any questions or concerns at 479-461-7086.

The wedding is a service of worship, during which a man and a woman unite their lives in the eyes of God and in the company of those dearest to them.  The music for their wedding should reflect this Christian joy!

The Organist/Choirmaster of St. John’s is familiar with a wide variety of literature and will be happy to assist the bride and groom in finding sacred music which reflects the couple’s unique feelings, yet upholds the integrity of the worship service.  All musical selections will be discussed with and approved by the Organist/Choirmaster.

St. John’s will be happy to arrange for one of our excellent vocal soloists, if desired.  If the bride or groom asks a friend to sing at the wedding, a rehearsal time can be arranged with the organist.  The soloist must have the music prepared before the rehearsal.  Arrangements for any additional instrumentalist, if desired, must be made by our organist.  No recorded music will be used for the wedding itself.

During the pre-service music the organist will provide appropriate selections for a Christian burial or cremation service.  The family may request any selection they wish to have included during that portion of the service.
