The Rt. Rev. Larry R. Benfield, Bishop
The Reverend Daniel K. Schieffler, Rector

Danny, Judy, and their 3 children moved to Fort Smith in June 1999 upon his graduation from seminary at Sewanee.  He practiced law for 16 years in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas before hearing the call to priesthood.  Since coming to Fort Smith, Danny served first as Curate at St. John’s and then as Priest-in-Charge and Rector after the Fr. Wright retired in 2004.

Danny enjoys preaching, pastoral care, teaching and overseeing this parish of nearly 450.  Some of the things he has been involved with at St. John’s include teaching Sunday School, Stewardship, Centering Prayer, EFM groups, ChristCare groups, Bible Study with the homeless, as well as parishioners, and involvement in parish outreach.  He loves to encourage members of St. John’s in their day to day ministry.  He seeks to follow Christ and at the same time help others in their journey with Christ.

He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in Public Administration in 1977 and the Arkansas School of Law in 1980.  Later he got his M. Div. from the University of the South, Sewanee, TN in 1999.

Beside reading and watching movies, Danny enjoys the outdoors especially fly fishing, fly tying, canoeing and kayaking.
